Today I am thrilled to be on the blog tour for His Guilty Secret by Helene Fermont.
About the Book:
Secrets & Lies Are Dangerous.
When Jacques’s body is discovered in a hotel room his wife, Patricia, suspects he has been hiding something from her.
Why was he found naked and who is the woman that visited his grave on the day of the funeral? Significantly, who is the unnamed beneficiary Jacques left a large sum of money to in his will and what is the reason her best friend, also Jacques’s sister, Coco, refuses to tell her what he confided to her?
Struggling to find out the truth, Patricia visits Malmö where her twin sister Jasmine lives and is married to her ex boyfriend. But the sisters relationship is toxic and when a family member dies shortly after, an old secret is revealed that shines a light on an event that took place on their tenth birthday.
As one revelation after another is revealed, Patricia is yet to discover her husband’s biggest secret and what ultimately cost him his life.
His Guilty Secret is an unafraid examination of the tangled bonds between siblings, the lengths we go to in protecting our wrongdoings, and the enduring psychological effects this has on the innocent…and the not so innocent.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!
This book has it is all. Infidelity, scandal, betrayal, secrets, jealously, deceit. I could keep going on but you get the idea. If you love all of these things in a book, then His Guilty Secret is definitely for you!
What if the person you were married too isn’t really the person you thought they were? When Patricia receives the news that her husband Jacques has died of a heart attack found in a hotel room, her world comes crashing down around her, but little does she know that it’s about to get a whole lot worse! What follows, is Patricia’s journey in seeking out the truth about the man her husband really was and questions who she can trust along the way, as lie after lie is uncovered.
As if this is not enough for poor Patricia, there is also a subplot added to the story which centres around her twin sister Jasmine, and their estrangement with another secret that tore the sisters apart years ago. Just to make this even more taboo, Jasmine is married to Patricia’s ex-boyfriend! This is just another layer to the story away from Jacques but it all does tie in and is wrapped up nicely.
There are a few characters in this book, but they all have a purpose and are each an integral part to the story. They were all well developed and I felt different emotions for each one, but my heart went out to Patricia the most and I could feel her pain as the secret that Jacques was hiding was uncovered. I loved that she was written though as a woman of strength and with a determination to keep going no matter how hard it was for her too comes to terms with a marriage that was built on a lie for 10 years.
In terms of the setting of the book, we are taken from London to France to Malmo which are all described so beautifully and vividly that it makes you feel that you are also there with Patricia through her journey to seek the truth.
I really enjoyed the writing style of this book, and I was hooked right from the start. It is a real page turner that will have you reading well into the night. Helene takes the reader on a rollercoaster of emotions and is able to reel the reader in and keep them in suspense for just the right amount of time before revealing the ultimate betrayal imaginable!
This is a well crafted psychological suspense, and Helene does not shy away or sugarcoat how complex relationships can be. It is a great insight into how one’s actions can have a domino effect and ruin so many lives just for their needs and desires to be met without thinking of the consequences of their actions.
All opinions are my own and are not biased in any way.
