A Purrfect Alibi by Leighann Dobbs
Release Date: 18th of September
Format: Kindle Edition
Print Length: 228 pages
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Fortune tellers and mediums have descended on the Oyster Cove Guesthouse, determined to finally solve the mystery of local seafarer Jedediah Biddeford’s murder 300 years ago. New owner Josie Waters has suddenly got bigger problems than burning the breakfasts: she’s up to her elbows in tarot cards and tea leaves…
When one of the mediums is found dead with an ominous note nearby, everything points to Jedediah’s ghost being the culprit. Suddenly, Josie finds that the fate of her guesthouse depends on not one murder but two, and she’s not going to rely on a crystal ball for answers. Despite the fact that cookbooks and candlesticks keep mysteriously falling off tables, Josie is sure there’s no such thing as ghosts. But guesthouse cats Nero and Marlowe know better…
Aided by her mom and eccentric family friend Millie, Josie sets out to prove the identity of the killer without summoning any spirits. Luckily Nero and Marlowe know the truth about ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night and they are on the case! Can they make Josie realize she is scratching up the wrong tree before the killer strikes again?
From the bestselling author of the USA Today bestselling Mystic Notch series, purrfect for fans of Adele Abbott, cat lovers and anybody who loves to curl up with a page-turning cozy mystery.

I read a lot of crime fiction that at times can be quite intense, so it is nice to balance this out with a cozy mystery. The Purrfect Alibi is the purrfect book to unwind with and is pawsitively gripping. You will get caught up in the adventures of Josie, her mum Rose and family friend Millie, with the help of two very cute felines Nero and Marlowe, as they become entangled in trying solving this latest murder mystery.
The third book in the series, A Purrfect Alibi follows on from book two, picking right up after the body of Jedediah Biddeford, a local seafarer who died 300 years ago is found in a wall at the guesthouse. The Oyster Cove Guesthouse soon becomes inundated with Fortune Tellers and Mediums, as they all try to use their psychic powers through tarot and tea leaves to try and communicate with Jedediah’s ghost in the hopes of locating the buried treasure that is rumoured to be on the premises.
But the mystery deepens when one of the mediums is found dead not long after announcing that she has made contact with Jedediah. This doesn’t bode well for Josie, who’s guesthouse is once again the scene of a crime and she can’t afford to lose any more business when guests start to cancel their reservations upon hearing the news. The race is then on to catch the killer before they strike again!
The characters in this story are all very likeable and I instantly connected with them, with the exception of sleazy bank manager Marlon who has taken a shine to Josie much to her displeasure. The standouts of the series though, are definitely Nero and Marlowe. I mean who doesn’t love talking cats! They are the real heroes of this story and series, as they lead Josie and co along with the ghost of Jedediah himself, to clues that will help them and the police in solving the murder.
Although A Purrfect Alibi can be read as a standalone there is always the benefit of reading the books in series order to fully appreciate the characters and past storylines. You say the word cozy mystery and immediately Leighann’s name comes to mind. She is definitely a fan favourite in this genre and deservedly so. A Purrfect Alibi is a fun, easy and enjoyable read that is beautifully written and I look forward to more books in the series.
Thank-you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Leighann Dobbs for allowing me to read an advanced copy of A Purrfect Alibi which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
