In the sleepy town of Lost Maidens Loch, people sometimes disappear… Down a quiet lane in town sits a little shop full of oddities you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. This is Love’s Curiosities Inc., and its owner, Temerity Love, is sought by experts all over the world for her rare and magical gift: the ability to find lost things and learn their stories.

When Lost Maidens’ pretty local school teacher is found murdered by a poisoned cup of tea, a strange antique hand mirror is discovered nearby. Temerity – with the help of witchy sister Tilda, their cats Scylla and Charybdis and the lovingly eccentric local townspeople – is determined to divine the story behind the mirror and its part in Miss Molly Bayliss’ untimely death.

If only grumpy out-of-towner Angus Harley of Lost Maidens Police wasn’t on the scene. Temerity can’t solve the crime without him, but he’s distracting, and in more ways than one. Can this unconventional duo solve the most mysterious murder ever to blight Lost Maidens Loch before the killer strikes again?

A magical and unputdownable whodunnit, perfect for fans of Adele Abbott, Amanda M. Lee and Leighann Dobbs.

A Spell of Murder, the first book in the A Lost Maidens Loch series is a great fun read. From the striking cover, to the whodunit storyline, to the loveable characters, this book is the perfect escape to get lost in and will have you racing through the pages as Kennedy takes you on a magical journey. I was hooked from the start and was disappointed when it came to the end. I just could have kept reading about the town and it’s colourful characters. If you love a cozy mystery that has crime, witchcraft, talking cats and a touch of romance then this is definitely the book for you!

Set in the picturesque sleepy town of Lost Madiens Loch, Miss Molly Bayliss a teacher at the local primary school drops dead in the staffroom. The murder weapon, a cup of tea laced with poison! When an antique hand made mirror is found near Molly’s body, local law enforcement enlist the help of Temerity Love, who has the gift of psychometry to help them solve the crime. But Temerity has her work cut out for her in making the new constable Angus Harley believe in her gift, as they race to solve the murder before the killer strikes again.

In the town of Lost Madiens Loch resides some quirky characters which Kennedy does a great job in bringing them to life throughout the story. Normally when I read the first book in a series it can usually take me a couple of books to connect with the characters, but in this case it was instantaneous. I absolutely adored them and I look forward getting to know them better in future books. I am particularly keen to read more of Temerity and Angus to see how their relationship progresses.

What I love the most about cozy mysteries is you still have the crime aspect in the stories but there is also humour, which Kennedy does a great job incorporating the two perfectly throughout. I really enjoyed her writing style and found it to be engaging, articulate, fluid and atmospheric. I really loved how through the prose, Kennedy was able to make me feel like I was part of the story and I absolutely loved every minute of the journey.

As a debut novel, Kennedy has captured the pure essence of the cozy mystery genre perfectly. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next with the second instalment and hopefully many more to come in this delightful series. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review A Spell of Murder which I highly recommend.

Thank-you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kennedy Kerr for allowing me to read an advanced copy of A Spell of Murder which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
