One woman’s quest for revenge unearths a fatal secret from her past.
Astrid Jensen holds one man responsible for her mother’s suicide, and she’ll do whatever’s necessary to get close to Daniel Holst and destroy his life – even if it means sleeping with him to gain his trust. Astrid knows he’s not who he pretends to be. But before she can reveal his dark secret, people from her mother’s past start turning up dead, and it looks like she and Daniel are next. In order to survive, she might have to put her trust in the man she has hated for so long.
Daniel Holst has worked hard to climb into Norway’s most elite and glamorous circles, and he’s not about to let any woman bring him down. But when a psychopathic killer starts murdering people from his shadowy past, he discovers that the only person who might be able to save him is the woman who wants to destroy him.
As Astrid digs deeper into her past, she uncovers secrets long buried and realizes everything she once believed is based on lies. What began as a quest to avenge her mother’s death becomes a desperate struggle for survival and leads to the truth about what happened one fatal night ten years ago—and the surprising mastermind behind the most recent murders.
For a book that is only 133 pages long, One Fatal Night packs one hell of a punch! Everything about this book drew me in. From the striking cover that sets off the sinister tone of the book perfectly, the intriguing plot and of course Helene herself, this book ticked all of the boxes for me and I throughly enjoyed every word of it.
The story sees Astrid hell bent on bringing down the man who she holds responsible for her mother’s murder and she will do whatever it takes to make him pay. But things aren’t so clear cut and the deeper she goes in finding out what happened, she must face that everything she thought she knew was based on lies.
The book starts out strong and Helene is able to keep up that momentum throughout, barely taking her foot off the accelerator, as she adds twists and turns along the way, to throw you off course. I thought I was pretty good at guessing where the story was going to go, but I could not have been more wrong…
I really enjoyed the characters in the story but the standout for me was definitely Astrid. A strong independent woman, although quite vulnerable, she has been written extremely well and just comes to life beautifully through Helene’s words. The other characters have been portrayed well and are assets to the story.
This is only the second book I have read of Helene’s, but she has quickly become an author whose books I look forward to. I really love her style and how she just gets on with things, without getting to bogged down in the details. Her plots are always well thought out and structured perfectly, which makes for an enjoyable reading experience.
If you are looking for a quick read, with great characterisation and a story that will have you enthralled and on the edge of your seat from start to finish, then this is the book for you. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review One Fatal Night which I highly recommend.
Thank you to Helene Fermont for allowing me to read an advanced copy of One Fatal Night which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This review will be added to Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. As I am from Australia, unfortunately, I am unable to add to Amazon UK.
