Today I am so thrilled to be sharing my review on the blog tour for Little Whispers by Kim Slater. This was released on the 21st of May published by Bookouture.
You shared a secret with the wrong person.
Janey Markham is thrilled to be moving with her family to Buckingham Crescent, the smartest address in a desirable suburban town.
Worried she’ll be excluded by the glossy local mothers, Janey is thrilled when she meets Tanya, the kind of woman she has always looked up to. Tanya takes Janey under her wing, and her teenage daughter Angel is amazing with Janey’s little boy. As Janey and Tanya grow closer, Janey feels she can finally leave her troubled past behind.
But then everything changes…
In a weak moment over a bottle of wine, Janey finds herself telling Tanya her most shocking secret. Why wouldn’t she trust her new friend?
The following day, Janey sees Angel, with a man old enough to be her father, pushing someone into a car. The next day a body is found and police appeal for witnesses – and share a picture of the same car…
When Janey tells Tanya she is going to the police, Tanya turns threatening. She’ll stop at nothing to defend Angel, even if her daughter is guilty. If Janey says anything, Tanya will make sure that her dark secret gets out.
Janey faces an impossible choice. Stay quiet about what she saw that terrible day. Or speak up, and destroy the family she has worked so hard to protect…
From million-copy bestseller K.L. Slater comes this twisty and absolutely unputdownable roller-coaster ride of a read. Fans of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl will be totally hooked on Little Whispers.
It is always a good day when you hear that Kim Slater is releasing a new book and an even better day when the early advance copy becomes available on NetGalley. Whatever I am doing when this happens, gets dropped and I am like roadrunner as I rush on over to get my copy!
For Little Whispers, the queen of the psychological thriller has spoken! I don’t know how Kim does it, but each book she releases just outdoes the previous one. Her plots are always fresh and intriguing, her characters so well developed and diverse and her writing just captures me right from the get-go!
As I always say in my reviews of Kims books, I am not going to rehash the plot here. The blurb has plenty of detail and I wouldn’t want to accidentally give something away. What I will say is, that I was immediately caught in Little Whispers web of lies and deceit, as Kim weaves her magic, while keeping me on my toes wanting more than anything to find out Jayne’s shocking secret!
But true to form, Kim doesn’t give up this information until she is done teasing the reader in that expert way that she does. This technique keeps you riveted to the story, making sure that you don’t miss a single morsel of it and this is what makes Kim’s stories so great.
With multiple characters and storylines, I was wondering how they were all going to come together, as they didn’t appear to be connected, but again Kim wows you and just blows you away with an outcome that I was not expecting at all. I look forward to the day when I can review one of her novels and go “ha” I worked it out, but I won’t my breath, she’s that good!
Little Whispers is everything and more in what I love in a psychological thriller and I can’t wait to see what Kim will have in store for us next. It was my absolute pleasure to be able to read and review Little Whispers, which I highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kim Slater for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Little Whispers which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This review will be added to NetGalley, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Amazon Australia, Amazon US, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play, Barnes and Noble & Waterstones. As I am from Australia, unfortunately, I am unable to add to Amazon UK.
