The one place she never wanted to go back to. The one place she can’t escape.
When she was just five years old, Lucy Murphy witnessed her mother’s brutal murder in their home on London’s notorious Griffin Estate. The case was never solved. Now a newly qualified police officer, Lucy has been given her first job: she’s going back to the Griffin Estate.
She is there to protect the estate’s vulnerable residents, including Shannon and Kian Winters, two kids struggling to deal with their alcoholic mother. Fifteen-year-old Shannon is working every spare hour to keep a roof over their heads, but thirteen-year-old Kian has fallen under the sway of gang leader Jax Priestly. And now Jax has plans for Shannon too…
As Lucy gets to know Kian and Shannon she becomes determined not to let the two teenagers become Jax’s victims. But time is running out. Jax is out of control, and the gang’s violent reprisals are escalating. Can Lucy face down her own demons in time to prevent a tragedy? As a child, she already witnessed the murder of one innocent person. It will take all her courage and training to stop another.
A shocking, fast-paced read that will keep you gripped from beginning to end. Fans of Kimberley Chambers and Martina Cole won’t be able to put this down.
Why have I not read any books by Casey Kelleher before! A huge mistake on my part, that I have now rectified by reading No Escape. Wow, what an introduction to Casey’s work. I was completely blown away by this book which is raw, gritty and one that I could not get enough of!
Casey has crafted a thrilling plot that makes it almost impossible to put the book down once you start. I was gripped right from the harrowing prologue, which certainly gets the heart racing and sets the tone for the rest of the story. It also captures the seedier and darker side of central London and its gangs, which has all been brought to life through the pages perfectly and realistically.
Casey has done a phenomenal job with the characters in this story. They are a diverse bunch that are very well rounded and developed. A mix of likeable and unlikable, each play out their role perfectly. It goes without saying the standout was definitely Lucy who carries the story on her shoulders well and is one character I would love to see featured again.
The ease of which I was able to settle in to this book was great. I can easily get distracted when I’m reading, but Casey had my full attention, drawing me into this world she has created. I was so engaged and felt like I was part of the story watching it all unfold on the sidelines, which is such a credit to Casey’s writing which I loved.
There is “No Escape’’ from this book! It is a fast paced, action packed read the keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to the pages, as Casey takes you on a wild ride with that is filled with twists and turns aplenty. You have a new fan in me Casey and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. It was a pleasure to read and review No Escape which I highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Casey Kelleher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of No Escape which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
