What are the stakes for falling in love?
That’s the question tarot card reader Gillian Howe ponders when she hosts a supernatural speed dating event. Making the perfect match is her passion, too bad she can’t find one for herself. A chance encounter with a wealthy vampire provides her an opportunity to attend an exclusive after-party and prove she isn’t opposed to love. But she finds herself plunged into a secret society of trancing, blood bonds and human escort rings. The night ends in a police raid and of all the vampire detectives in Raven’s Hollow, Garrett Mulroney shows up at the scene. Even if he is scorching, hot, he accused her of a crime she didn’t commit and nearly ruined her life.
Fate has thrown them together again…
Garrett has been down this brutal road before and it didn’t end well. His sire tried to force him into a life of debauchery, but he chose to uphold the law instead. The fact that the one woman he can’t seem to get out of his mind or out of his lust-filled dreams is at the center of his investigation doesn’t bode well. It’s a good thing she hates his guts because it helps douse his growing desire for her and focus on the case. But when Gillian’s cousin is kidnapped into the Du Sang Brotherhood, she becomes the prime witness. Now they’re forced to put their differences aside and go undercover by pretending to be a couple. The more time Garrett spends with Gillian, the more he wants her in his life—and in his bed.
Knowing who to trust and who to love becomes a matter of survival, and possibly the only way to take down the Brotherhood.
When I was contacted by Shari to see if I would like to review her latest paranormal fantasy romance book Midnight Temptation, it could not have come at a better time. Having made the decision earlier to try to step out of my comfort zone more and read other books outside of my beloved crime fiction genre, I jumped at the chance. How did I go you ask. Read on to find out!
Midnight Temptation is the second instalment in the Raven’s Hollow Coven series and whilst it can be read as a stand-alone, I think I would have benefited from reading book one first. In saying that though, I knew that going in that this was the second book and this in no way hindered my enjoyment at all of Midnight Temptation, it just would have given me more of the background to the series and character’s.
I don’t need to rehash the plot of the story as there is enough information in the blurb to start you off. What I will say is Shari has created a story that is full of suspense, romance and humour thrown in along the way that makes for such a fun read.
The characters are all well rounded, developed and we’re really a joy to read. I absolutely loved Gillian and how she has been created as a person really resonated with me. Loving and compassionate she is really someone you could see yourself being friends with and want in your corner. Garrett is also a great character and the chemistry between him and Gillian is insane!
I really enjoyed Shari’s writing and how she was able to draw me in and keep me engaged throughout. She has created an interesting plot, with well written characters and keeps the story moving at a steady pace that had me wanting to keep going at the end of each chapter. All up it was a very enjoyable reading experience.
So too loop back to the beginning of my review and the question of how did I find reading a book from the paranormal fantasy romance genre. I loved it! It really was a great book and I will most definitely be continuing on with the series.
Thank you to Shari for reaching out and providing me with an advanced readers copy of Midnight Temptation, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play, Barnes & Noble & Waterstones if available. As I am from Australia, I am unable to add to Amazon UK.
