“I can’t sleep. Not since June 16th, 2018.Not since what happened…”
Traumatised by the events of her past, exhausted by insomnia, Becky Braithwaite believes that a new start will help her to recover. She leaves home to fulfil her brother’s dreams, and honour the life he never had but she soon finds that escaping from the past is not as easy as she imagined.
Is her fatigued mind playing tricks on her, or is danger really lurking in the shadows?
This unputdownable psychological thriller will keep you turning the pages to find out the truth.
I Can’t Sleep is an intriguing read that captured my attention with its tag line of, “I can’t sleep. Not since June 16th, 2018. Not since what happened…” This raised so many questions in my head and I just had to know why! As a sufferer of insomnia myself, this title and story made it all the more appealing to me.
The plot is fresh, unique and is very compelling. J.E. Rowney does such a great job of really going deep into the main protagonists head and gives the reader a detailed account of the trauma she has suffered. Although she is not a character that I connected with initially, I was able to sympathise with her and her situation and she did grow on me towards the end.
J.E. Rowney is a new author to me and one that I would like to read more from when I can. She has a very easy style which makes for a very smooth and fluid read. Her characters have been written well and are very well rounded and developed. The story has been expertly plotted, executed and with an outcome that I did not see coming, does make for a very enjoyable read.
I Can’t Sleep is very gripping read. It is real page turner and at only 149 pages, will have you racing through them at lightening speed. It packs a powerful punch and the tension and suspense that is built up along the way, makes this an edge of your seat psychological thriller. It was a pleasure to read and review I Can’t Sleep which I recommend.
