The young girl pushes against the backseat of the family sedan, fighting to free herself from the crude ties restricting her hands and feet. As the car speeds towards the edge of town, she looks back at her family home, and watches in horror as it is suddenly engulfed in a mass of flames. Trembling with fear, she turns towards the driver and hears only laughter. She knows that the worst is yet to come…

Detective Jenna Alton surveys the charred remains of the large suburban home, stopping to pause at the three lifeless bodies of the Woods family. Jenna knows she’s looking for a serial killer, but her priority is finding the missing teenage daughter last seen on the night of the inferno.

Days later, Sophie Wood’s body is discovered floating in a shallow pool of crystal-clear water—known locally as Dead Man’s Drop—but Jenna still doesn’t know who would target the quiet family in such a brutal attack.

Delving into the family’s past, she makes a shocking discovery—a link between the killer and someone connected to her deputy David Kane. If Jenna is right and the killer is back and seeking revenge, then she must act fast to keep her deputy safe.

When another girl is taken, Jenna and David follow the trail into a network of underground caves on the outskirts of town. With little time before the killer claims his next victim, they race into the pitch-black tunnels, unsure whether they have just walked into the killer’s trap. Can they find the girl in time and escape the caves without the killer chasing them down?

If you like pulse-racing thrillers from Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, you will love this gripping new book from USA Today bestselling author D.K. Hood.

**Each Kane and Alton book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**

Bless me father for I have sinned…Before reading Promises in the Dark, I have to confess that I have not read a book by D.K. Hood before! Why I haven’t, I can’t answer, why now with book 10, well I have read so many positive things about this series since starting my blog last year, I just had to see for myself what I had been missing out on!

Oh boy, have I been missing out! Promises in the Dark is a thrilling read from start to finish. D.K. Hood pulled me into town of Black Rock Falls and into the lives of each of the characters, experiencing the story through their eyes. It is full of action and suspense and although I went in blind, I had no trouble following along.

Starting with book 10, I figured that I may have had trouble connecting with Kane and Alton, as I didn’t know anything about them, but this was not the case at all. The connection was instantaneous and I felt like I was catching up with old friends that I hadn’t seen for years. It was comfortable, which is a tribute to how they have been written.

Promises In The Dark is a cracking read and one I throughly enjoyed. I do have a lot to catch up on and I hope to be able to go back and start from the beginning at some point, but until then, I am so glad to have been given the opportunity to read this instalment. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review Promises In The Dark which I highly recommend.

Thank you to D.K. Hood, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Promises In The Dark, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will also add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play and Barnes & Noble if available. As I am from Australia, I am unable to add to Amazon UK, but will post to Waterstones & Foyles if also available.
