They live in the big houses on the pretty street. Those other women, as we call them. And to think I used to want to be like them, to have their money and happiness, to live and laugh and play like them. Not any more.

It’s the fourth of July and the whole town is gathered at the local pool. Through the sweltering afternoon, we single mothers don’t mix with the other women––the ones with the perfect lives and happy marriages. Women like Sabine Miller. But when Sabine shoots me a desperate look across the water and suddenly disappears, my blood runs cold…

Running to the back gate, all I find is a silver charm bracelet she dropped on her way out. I convince myself I’m imagining things until Sabine’s husband Mark appears. When he realizes she’s missing, he phones the cops straight away. “Someone has been threatening Sabine,” he says. “Now they’ve kidnapped her.”

Hours later, I wish I’d run faster. The whole town is searching the streets, calling Sabine’s name over and over. On the TV, Mark is begging for someone to bring his wife home.

The truth is, I was the last person to see her alive––and it’s killing me inside. Now the cops are at my door asking questions. I’m terrified they’ll find out what happened years ago between me and Sabine. Something I’ve never told anyone.

But I need to tell someone. Can you keep a secret?

From bestselling author Georgina Cross, the most exciting new voice in suspense, comes a twisted and unputdownable psychological thriller about the power and damage of secrets behind closed doors. Perfect for anyone who was totally hooked by The Wife Between UsBig Little Lies or Gone Girl.

After a fantastic debut last year with The Stepdaughter, I could not wait for Georgina Cross to release her next book. Thankfully I didn’t have long to wait. When the opportunity presented itself to be able to read and review an advanced copy of The Missing Woman, I jumped at the chance.

They say that two can keep a secret, if one of them is dead. Erica is haunted by a secret that she needs to share with you. Even though there was the usual separation of classes at the 4th of July pool party, it seemed to be a good day for all. That is, until Sabine’s husband makes a desperate call to the police saying that Sabine has been kidnapped.

What does this mean for Erica when she realises that the mystery that Sabine has left behind, along with her gold bracelet, is one that she may have been able to prevent if she had gotten there faster. Now, as perhaps the last person who saw Sabine, she has to contend with the possibility of her secrets being revealed.

Once again Georgina Cross took me hostage with a story that just consumed me from start to finish. I was only a few chapters in, when I realised I was in a standoff with myself, wanting to savour each page and wanting to see how it was going to unfold. The latter won and I flew through it in one sitting. My Kindle got quite the workout while I read this!

I was caught up in the mystery of Sabine’s disappearance and like the characters, desperate to know what had happened and if she was ok. Along the way secrets that have been buried deep, rise to the surface, giving you reason to question everyone as past events are brought to light in the form of a twist I did not see coming!

The Missing Woman is another smashing read from Georgina Cross. It is compelling, emotive, perfectly written, has strong characters, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and that ending… I had all the feelings about how this ended. I can’t tell you what they were of course as that would be a spoiler, but let me tell you I had all the feelings!

I think it’s clear that I loved this book and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. What I will say is, The Missing Woman is a book I can’t recommend highly enough and is the first book that will be part of my best books for 2021! It was an absolute pleasure to read and review The Missing Woman and I can’t wait to see what Georgina Cross will come up with for us next.

Thank you to Georgina Cross, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Missing Woman, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
